Healthy Cooking Classes

Brook Harmon, MS, RD, LD

Take time to pamper yourself while improving your health.  Taught by dietitians, our classes show you the why's and how's of cooking delicious meals with a healthy twist.  Classes include instruction in the principles of a healthy diet as well as the opportunity to prepare and eat meals designed with good living in mind.  Our team of instructors helps take the guess work out of choosing and preparing foods full of flavor as well as good nutrition.

Southern Recipes Made Healthy
May 5 @ 6:30-7:30PM  and May 14 @ 10:30-11:30AM  |  Jeep Rogers Family YMCA  |  $25 per person
Bring in your favorite recipes and learn how to make them healthier. Also, add to your recipe collection with recipes focused on using in-season produce this spring and summer. This class includes a demonstration and taste testing.  To register, call (803) 451-8439.

Football season is upon us and one of the best things about this time of year is the fabulous tailgating cuisine. But what is a health-conscious tailgater to do when tempted by a myriad of salty, fatty, sugary, fried foods spread across folding tables on game day?

Learn from a Providence Heart & Vascular Institute cardiologist and USC registered dietitian about the importance of heart-healthy dining EVEN on tailgating days, along with outdoor food safety precautions. We will also provide recipes and tips for lightening even the heaviest of tailgating menus.  This class will be taught by Dr. Taylor Williams, Columbia Cardiology.
