DSAC says food and other items may be donated
until Dec. 5, the last day of classes

Arnold School students, staff and faculty are again working on behalf of the Harvest Hope Food Bank to help the less fortunate during a struggling economy.

Setting an example, students in Dr. Kara Montgomery’s Applied Aspects of Human Nutrition class raised money and volunteered their time to this year’s efforts.

The students were moved to action by the Harvest Hope’s “Feed Your Neighbor” campaign, launched in October.

After raising $90 over two class periods, the students also worked for two hours at the Bank’s Shop Road warehouse assembling 150 boxes of food.

To the delight of the group, one of the students arrived with a $250 donation that her sorority raised by staging a dress-down day.

The Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC) has placed collection barrels in public areas where other donations may be placed until Dec. 5, the last day of classes.

The barrels are on the first floor of the Health Sciences Building, the first floor lobby of the Public Health Research Center and the USC Speech and Hearing Center at Middleburg Office Park.

HARVEST VOLUNTEERS – Ten members of Dr. Kara Montgomery’s Applied Aspects of Human Nutrition class pause during their efforts at the Harvest Hope Food Bank warehouse where they worked to assemble food packages for distribution to the less fortunate.

The school is requesting donations of a variety of food and other items including:

Canned meat and fish; peanut butter (plastic jars); canned soup/stew; dried or canned beans; canned vegetables; canned fruit; tomato sauce; cereal; instant potatoes; milk (powdered or evaporated); sugar; rice; grits/oatmeal; baby formula; baby food (jars, Stages 1 & 2); diapers; baby wipes; new or used black pens/markers; personal care items (toothpaste, shampoo, soap,
feminine products); used grocery bags; (plastic or paper) and laundry detergent.

Off-campus centers may collect items within their area and deliver to one of the barrel locations or request assistance from DSAC to have the donations delivered to the collection barrels. Please email Christy Smith at cfsmith@sc.edu to coordinate pick-up if needed.
